Finance and Business Support Officer

We are seeking a Finance and Business Support Officer to provide efficient and accurate finance, HR and business support across the organisation.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a varied role within a purpose-driven organisation. The successful candidate will play an important part in ensuring Active Kent & Medway operates effectively, sustainably and compliantly, helping the team maximise its impact across Kent and Medway.

Working closely with colleagues across the organisation, the postholder will support financial processes, HR administration and operational systems within a publicly funded, not-for-profit environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Process and administer financial transactions, including purchase orders, invoices, expenses, supplier payments and purchase card returns.
• Maintain accurate financial records and systems, ensuring all transactions are processed in a timely manner.
• Support account reconciliations, monitoring of expenditure against budgets, and the preparation of budgets, financial reports and management information.
• Maintain procurement, supplier, contract, audit and insurance records, ensuring key deadlines and renewal dates are monitored.
• Provide HR administration support including recruitment, onboarding, induction, payroll liaison, leave management, sickness recording, DBS checks and training records.
• Provide wider business support across the organisation, including meeting coordination, minute taking, inbox management and responding to routine enquiries.
• Support organisational compliance, governance, policies, procedures and operational documentation.
• Contribute to the ongoing improvement of systems, processes and ways of working, providing flexible support to meet organisational priorities and the needs of a small team.

You will have:

• Experience of financial administration, including processing transactions and maintaining accurate records.
• Experience of using accounting software and Microsoft 365 applications, particularly Excel.
• Experience of providing administrative or business support within a professional environment.
• Excellent organisational skills, attention to detail and strong numeracy.
• Ability to prioritise workload, manage competing deadlines and work accurately with financial information.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build positive working relationships and collaborate effectively with others.
• Ability to work independently, use initiative and identify opportunities for improvement.
• An interest in working within a values-led charity or not-for-profit organisation.

Experience of working within a charity, not-for-profit, community, sport, health or publicly funded organisation would be desirable, as would experience of using Xero, Microsoft Forms, Power Automate or Power BI.
